The sport of sailing is different for each one of us. There is no other sport like it. You can take your boat for a sunset cruise, a Sunday morning champagne brunch, participate in a beer can race, or work your way up into contending for a world championship. Sailing can be a lifelong sport for you, and your family.

Never sailed before? Want to get started? There are many, many resources from local sailing schools that are taught by sailing professionals, college courses, on-line courses, high school sailing, and courses targeted to the peanut butter and jelly crowd. Countless books have been written on sailing.

The opportunity for you is to find the approach that fits your temperament and lifestyle. One thing is for sure-once you get started you won’t want to stop.

Local Yacht Clubs
Racing sailors at local yacht clubs are always looking for crew. This is a great and inexpensive way to go sailing. It can be a little daunting, based on the seriousness of the program that you participate in and the seriousness of the skipper and the rest of the crew. Find the right situation and you will have a great time learning about performance sailing and what it takes to get a sailboat around the course faster then competition.
