Buying a Boat? We can Help!

The Search: Finding a boat today is easier then ever. The internet is your friend. In addition to all of the tools that anyone has access to over the internet we have access to soldboats.com . We can provide data on what the boat of your dreams is really selling for. We also have access to dealer search capabilities on Yacht World and, if your looking for a JBoat we can utilize Jnet-the JBoat intranet site for dealers.

You found your dream boat! Now What? Is it for sale by owner? Broker? Do you work with the selling broker directly? Or should I have my own broker that is representing me? The answer is there is no right answer. It depends on many factors not limited to: Boat size and complexity, location, transaction size, age, and your personal comfort level with qualifying the boat to the point of wanting to take the next step and making an offer.

How can we help? This is where experience and industry contacts can come into play. We have worked with many boat brokers across the nation. We have earned a positive reputation and all are willing to work with us again. In addition we can rely on our contacts to make sure the boat is as advertised. In some cases we have asked our friends to “pre-screen” a boat to make sure that drive time and/or airfare cost can be justified. Our goal is to minimize your time chasing down the right boat that meets your requirements. We can be more efficient and qualify boats that will be worthy of taking the time to view.

Lets make an offer: We can provide forms that have the correct legal wording to protect you in the transaction and advise you on the inclusion of appropriate contingencies to ensure that the boat is as advertised. We highly recommend that a marine survey as part of a contingency. This is a very important step and without the right agreement and terms you may not be as protected in the transaction as you should have been.

Offer Accepted! Now What? The contingencies need to be worked through and cleared. We can recommend and work with a marine surveyor to protect your interests. The inventory needs to be accounted for and delivered. We can recommend and work with financial institutions on your behalf. We can work with the boatyard on loading, packing, and shipping your boat as well as the commissioning once it arrives at your port of call.

There are a lot of steps that go into buying a boat. We enjoy helping our customers achieve their dream by utilizing our expertise to make the transaction occur efficiently and professionally.

Customer Testimonials:

Tony Hauglum, Corpus Christi, Texas - 04/13/2009
“Bob Sittel and Scott Spurlin helped me to buy a J44 out of New York four years ago. Bob and Scott were extremely helpful, and worked with me on my side of the transaction. Their knowledge of the transaction process was very helpful, and made the process much easier and I was more comfortable with the process, knowing that I was not missing some important detail.
I would recommend both Bob and Scott as honest, hard-working, and knowledgeable individuals, who are not out to just "make a buck", as they are genuinely interested in the needs and satisfaction of the buyer. I say this because I am one of those individuals, and would use them again should I pursue another J Boat.”

NOTE: To get Tony his J44 we assisted with the following: help with locating a shoal draft keel, finding a hauler that would pick up the shoal draft in one state, the boat in another state, and delivering to Texas. The contingencies that were in the contract and worked through to Tonys’ satisfaction resulted in Tony having one of the nicest J44’s in the country.

Jeff and Kimberley Mayfield, Blanco, Texas- 05/2005
“The first boat that Scott showed us is the one that we bought. Scott helped with financing, escrow, and delivery. We are very satisfied with JBoatsSoouthwest.”
