J100 Sprit - Check it Out!!

J/100 Hull #163 is the first J/100 with a sprit and anchor locker. Owner Ralph Hillman on his new J/100: "The J/100 was absolutely fantastic to windward with many of our competitors complimenting the boat on how high and fast we could point. Downwind, the asymmetric was a dream to use and gibe. This was our first race so the boat has great potential as we get to know her better. We look forward to racing our J/100 again soon. "

Texoma Sailing Club 2010 Results. The hot J/Boats were all in the spinnaker fleet. At the top of the heap was JD and Susan Hill's beautiful J/122 "Second Star". They had a great regatta, battling with Juan Mauri Pro Sailing and their Farr 39. Ultimately taking second place, 1.5 points out of first. Fantastic job! Scott Law's team on Chareta J/36 grabbed 5th, Mark Hobbs on Valhalla, ended up in 6th. The other J/Boats in the fleet were: Mark Masur, J/105 Two Feathers, Matt Arno J/105 Blue Flash, J/80 80 Proof, Ramon Torres, Mike and Ed on their fast J/92S. The beautiful new J/95 also made her racing debut. The Race committee work and the hospitality were all fantastic!

Once again J/boat owners led the way with 4-J/105's, J/80, New J/95, J/29, and a one design class of J/22's.

Shoe Regatta-Lakewood Yacht Club
May 15th & 16th

J/Boat owners were well represented in 4 One Design classes: J/22, J/80, J/105, and J/109. Several J/Boats raced PHRF. Both the J/122 Gambler and the J/145 NefteGaz were out.

The Houston J/22 fleet had 8 boats on the line with Steve and Anna Willits coming on strong with 2 bullets in race 3 and 4 to bump themselves into 1st place.

The J/80's got in 3 races with Robert McMahan grabbing 1st with a 3,1,2 results and followed by Forbes Durdin on Mojito with a 1,2,3. Love that one design racing-heartbreaking to get second on a tie breaker but close racing is always a lot more fun!

The J/105's got in three races as well. Team Zartler doesn't care if they have their J/105 or a borrowed one underneath them. They still go fast, and with the borrowed JTeez filling in for their Solaris they posted a 1,3,1 score, edging out Bee Bednar by two points. Many thanks to Camille and Jim Tichenor for letting the Zartlers get out on the race track. It's always great to see the B-boats out on the course as the charterers represent future growth in our sport. Thanks Alan Bates/B-boats for getting your boats on the line. Check out B Sailing HERE

The J/109's were able to get 5 boats on the line with only Surprise unusually absent. French Connection/John Mather scored a 1st and two seconds to unseat Al Goethe's Hamburg by two points with Hamburg scoring a 3,1,3. Long time J/24 sailor is getting the family J/109 "Harms Way" around the course and moving up, finishing this weekend off with a 1st in the last race. Barry and Heidi Hoeffner showed up and helped make a fleet. Thanks for coming out!

We were all happy spectators watching the J/122 and J/145 going upwind and down. These two boats eat up the distance fast. Doug Shaffer/Gambler took 2nd and Bill Kelleher grabbed third with his J/145.

Houston Yacht Club Leukemia Cup Regatta
June 25 - 27

J/Boat owners have always supported the Leukemia Cup Regatta's very well and this event was no exception. J/Boat owners put together enough boats to have 5! One Design classes on the line: J/22, J/24, J/80, J/105, and J/109's all making class. More Leukemia Cup News can be found HERE

Charles Singstad came down from Canyon Lake YC and stole the silver from all of the local J/24 sailors scoring 8, Closely followed by GBCA sailor Stuart Lindow with a 9. Great close racing!

The J/22 class had 8 boats, all locals. Marvin Beckman, HYC finished 2nd in one race-the rest were firsts! Total score of 6 followed by Brant Koepke in second place.

The J/80 fleet had four boats battling it out with Mojito/Forbes Durdin taking home the silver followed by Kaos/Scott Young out of AYC. Bill Rose/Kicks finished 3rd and Alfred Poindexter/Andale finished 4th.

J/105: Bee Bednar and Team Stinger have been on a tear lately and captured first place at this Leukemia Cup. Radiance, Babe and Zippity rounded out the results.

PHRF A: Bill Kelleher on his J/145 NefteGaz decimated the competition taking straight bullets! In fact the competition was so intimidated they didn't show up! No need to verify these results-trust me!

Special mention needs to be made of the Aerodyne 43 "Chillin like Chuck" (Our listing as Dulcinea) entered by ten year old Owen Jones. Owen and his crew took 3rd. Owen stated his dad might be good enough to really help next year.

J/109: Al Goethe and Team Hamburg got back on top of the podium followed by Mark Smith and the crew from FWBC took 2nd. Sea Trial, Surprise, and Pole Dancer made up the rest of the fleet.

Ft Worth Boat Club - Annual Regatta
June 5 & 6

The J/24 class was won by Bryan Dyer, with Mark Smith and the After Midnight team in second. Kelly Holmes, Bad Moon Rising finished 3rd.

In the J/80 class Mike Lattimore/Yoko won first, Ramon Torres/80 Proof second. Bernie Nauta, Weekend at Bernie's and class newcomer Jeff Keller on C'Nasty had their moments of brilliance. Ken Young and his Joker team won the J/105 class, Matt Arno/Blue Flash second. Long time J/80 sailor and his team of ex-J/80 sailors tied for second-getting 3rd on the tie breaker.

J/22 Southwest District and MidWinters update.

To date the J/22's have completed the following circuit stops" 3/27-28 Lake Canyon YC, April 10-11 Rush Creek YC, May 1-2 DCYC (Leukemia Cup), June 5-6 Oklahoma City BC. With 4 events down and 3 to go, the series leaders are: Scott Greenawalt/E3, David Smedley/Daddy's Boat, Jeffrey Progelhof/Lil' Hoss, Kevin McConnell/Stampede, Eric Faust/SloPoke. To date 28 different J/22's have participated in at least one circuit stop! Way to go! That is great participation!

J/24 2010 Circuit Stop - 4 Events are in the books:

- Elissa Regatta at HYC,
- FWBC Cowtown Stampede,
- AYC-"State Champs!", and
- CCYC's "Surfin Safari"

To date there have been 25 participants. The real surprise is that Bob Harden's Mr. Happy team is atop of the leader board! (Kidding-The Mr. Happy team has been consistently at the top now for a LONG time). Doug Weekly/Ambassador is second, followed by Bryan Dyer/Rum Line, Stuart Lindow/Tropical Aggression, and Kelly Holmes/Bad Moon

J/80 Circuit hasn't seen much action this year. Several of the more active owners are participating in the East Coast Events, and with Great success.

Hopefully we can jump start the J/80's into getting a 2011 circuit going.

Local Sailing News

- The "Esmeralda" moves through the Corpus Christi ship channel Friday afternoon on its way to the Sail South Texas event in Ingleside. The Chilean vessel is operated by the Chilean Navy and is currently the 2nd longest and tallest sailing ship in the world. See it HERE

The Test Drive Day held at Austin YC on April 24th was a great success. We had boats ranging from the Bic Open, Viper 640's, Weta TriMaran, several dinghies, J/80, J/105, and Corsair Tri's. The wind more then co-operated with several of the boats seeing 20 knots of speed! Several people re-ignited their passion for sailing. One attendee has already bought a J/80 and plans on participating in both local and circuit races. Sailing Anarchy forum link HERE

Lakewood YC Test Drive Day. Saturday May 22nd. Same formula as the AYC event. Lakewood YC member and J/109 owner Al Goethe made this event happen. Once again we had the Weta tri, Viper 640, available J/22's, J/80's, J/105's, and the J/145 went out. Bee and Kevin Bednar were outstanding on their J/105 giving several rides. I overhead one father who had just returned with his wife and kids tell her "that was the most amazing time I have ever had on the water!". If any of you would like to host a test drive day at your Yacht Club - let us know. We will be happy to support this type of event. We need to pull more people back into the sport and attract some newbies!

Philip Hughes has purchased our J/92. We delivered it to Philip at his Canyon Lake YC on Friday July 2nd. On July 4th Philip and crew on their new boat settled for a 2nd in the annual long distance race-after leading for quite a bit of the event! Way to go!

Juan Penelas is the new owner of J/80 #787 "The Great Escape". Juan is returning to sailing and plans to join Austin YC. Initially he wants to race beer cans, and series races, and get his wife and three kids out. Juan and his wife met sailing.

There is a run on J/95's going to Florida! Our inventory J/95 was purchased and moved to Florida. I understand it is the 4th one sold to Florida. Great boat for their shallow waters!

J/109 "Sea Trial" There is a fleet of J/109's racing on a regular basis and I hope we can keep this boat in Houston and in the fleet. She's nice!
