Kerry Klingler Reclaims J/80 North American Championship for 2009
at the Lakewood Yacht Club - October 22-25th

J80 North Americans

The 2009 J/80 North American Championships proved to be
the perfect ending to a great season of J/80 racing. The best
of the best came to Texas to give it their all in a fight for the
championship. Six past North American Champions joined the
fleet of 27 boats, in what proved to be almost perfect conditions
on Galveston Bay. The regatta went down to the wire of the
final race of the 8 race series, with Kerry Klingler and crew
aboard "Lifted", edging Terry Flynn by 1 point, to win the
2009 North American Championships. In the third place was
another past champion, Glenn Darden, followed by Jay Lutz
in fourth. CHECK OUT THE RESULTS HERE

I want to thank this year's host venue, Lakewood Yacht Club for
having us. Terry Chapman, the club General Manager, and his
staff did a fantastic job. A lot of work was put in by our race

committee, Marc Holdaway, Principal Race Officer, and Dwight Bengston, Race Committee Chairman, did a
great job in putting together a very organized group of individuals to run all the races. Kristen Robinson and the
J/80 class did an outstanding job of supporting the event and put on a great party for the sailors.

And a big thanks to Scott Gale and Chris Kelley for capturing and sending the many wonderful photographs of the event!

J/95 Wins Sail Magazine's "Performance Boat of the Year"

J/95 Performance Boat of Year

If you have ever worried about hitting bottom, shallow dockage,
and expensive haul out charges, yet do not want to "downsize"
to a 25' or smaller swing keel boat, then the 31' J/95 should be
considered. The Sail Magazine judges have confirmed what
those of us that have sailed the J/95 have experienced: This
Boat Performs! READ THE ARTICLE HERE!

J/95 Performance Boat of Year

All in a package that consists of: a huge cockpit, perfect for the racing crew or entertaining, with berths, head and optional creature comforts. Saving Sailing by Nicholas Hayes

Saving Sailing
Have you instinctively felt that something was different, or missing with: your relationship with your kids, the value of your hobbies to you, or how you spend time the way you do? This book provides a lot of insight and helps to understand family relationships, raising kids, and though it is written in the context of sailing, it applies to life. If you read this book, it will motivate you to take action with your kids and family, the sport of sailing, and how you look at "quality time". What's your favorite sailing memory? Make a sailing memory for someone in 2010.

Variety is the spice of sailing life! Check out this discussion forum on "Changes to Improve 2010 Events". There may be some ideas that can be used at your club to spice up the sailing and get more sailors out: CLICK HERE TO READ

Interested in Shared Ownership of a J/Boat?
Bob Sittel is considering the formation of a timeshare
program that provides shared access to J/105s,
J/92s, and potentially other J/Boats. These boats
would be located on Lake Lewisville and/or
Lake Ray Hubbard, and would be available for
racing, cruising, learning and socializing.

We would like to organize an introductory meeting to discuss this
program with those that are interested. The program objective is
to get you on the water with a great J/Boat, by sharing use,
minimizing your cash outlay and eliminating the boat chores and
maintenance. CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO

Maintenance Tip - Check your trailer pads!!!
Maintenance Tip All too often our trailers and how we use them are neglected.
Have you checked the condition of your pads lately? How are
they adjusted? For most keel boats, 80 - 90% of the boats
weight should be supported through the keel on the keel pan
of the trailer. Here's a great article written for the J/80 sailors
that should be helpful for all trailered boats as well.

Sail Boat Status - Now is a Great Time to Buy!

The Annapolis Boat Show had better than expected new boat sales, and in the meantime, brokerage boat sales were "OK" -
until last month. November 2009 sail boat sales are up 118% over November 2008. Check out this YachtWorld Report

Hard to go wrong buying new or used. New boats are scarce, those boats will be in demand on the used market in a couple
of years. Used boats purchased now will hold their value better than ever in the coming years. Combine this with low interest
rates and willing lenders - now may be the best time to buy a boat in recent years!

Bob and I are standing by to help. Our brokerage boats are selling as J/Boat owners are moving up. If you have a J/80 or a
J/22 that you would like to sell, we have several interested buyers. We also have a number of J/105s for sale - if you have
ever wanted a J/105, now is the time!

New Boats - J/80s and J/100s ordered now will not be available in Texas until March of 2010. All other models will be available for April/May deliveries. PLACE YOUR ORDERS NOW! Call 512-423-2391 or CONTACT US HERE
