JBoats Southwest Newsletter - September 2011

This month we have 3 contributing authors writing about the "Joy of Sailing" in 3 unique venues!

- Bill Lakenmacher writes about the J/105 North Americans that took place in Marblehead, Mass. Bill's first paragraph created wonderful imagery in my mind!
- Tonja Sanchez and her team of Sirens participated in the International Womens Keelboat Championship!
- Brian Bradshaw, a solo lake sailor that probably finds a way to sail more then any of us, writes about his new J/111!

I enjoyed all three of these articles and I hope you do as well! I do think articles such as this make this newsletter better and if any of you get the writing bug-send them in-we will publish them and we love to use pictures. Enjoy this months "Joy of Sailing" newsletter.

Bay Cup II - August 6th
Lakewood Yacht Club

The J/105's raced this event as a One Design fleet with 4 entries. Scott Jacobsen is getting the Marian V program cranked back up which has made the other J/105 owners very happy! The Bay Cup was a lot of fun for this fleet as they were battling for 1st place all the way around the course with the Stinger bunch bringing home the top trophy! Congrats Bee and team!

Rolex Women's Keelboat

2011 International Women's Keelboat Championship
August 29 - September 2
Rochester Yacht Club

36 International, all women's teams made there way to the Rochester YC to participate in this 26th running of the event. It's a great opportunity for the best female sailors to compete in a one design keel boat event and see if they can win those Rolex's!

It's also a fantastic event for aspiring sailors to up their abilities by competing, and learning from the best of the best. Two Southwest teams put together programs to attend: Linda McDavitt, Ann Kitzmiller, Michelle Cyr, and Chantal Pittman out of AYC-Austin, Texas-"Team Frosty" and Tonja Sanchez(DCYC), Gayle Finster(DCYC), Susan Cassidy(Olcott YC), and Linda Bays(Oklahoma City Boat Club)- Dallas Corinthian YC, Denton, Texas-"Team Dream Ticket".

This years event started on the heels of Hurricane Irene and the first day of racing was postponed due to no wind behind the system. After 3 days for a total of 8 races Cory Sertl and Team Lucy took home the Rolex's! The rest of the competitors took home memories of a great event and learned a lot! Worth much more then any wrist watch!

New Boat Owners
J/111

Brian Bradshaw and his new Hot Rod!

I met Brian for the first time this past April. Brian's love for sailing is unbounded and, at first, unique to me! He sails once or twice per week - by himself! He likes to sail fast and he likes to challenge himself every time he goes out.

We delivered J/111 Hull #38 to Brian this past month - and he sent us a great little write-up about his thought processes and expereinces in selecting a J/111, and the enjoyment that he has gotten out of his new hot rod! We are sharing it with all of you this month.
