J/24 Circuit Stop #2 - Fort Worth Boat Club - April 9-10th

J/24 Circuit Stop Fort Boat Club

13 boats stampeded to cowtown for a great time! And it was all smiles for Bob Hardens' "Mr. Happy" team as they won the regatta with 5 bullets in a row and a 3rd in Race 6 for 8 total points. Bryan and Vicki Dyer were second in the "Rumline" and lined up behind them were Kelly Holmes with his "Bad Moon" followed up by David Broadway in "Superman". This fleet has to be the most creative with names. Here are the 5th -13 finishers in order: "Code Blue"-owned by Dr. Charles Singstad, "After Midnight", "Happy Dance", "OohAhh", "Katana", "Conga Line", "daveBoat", "Flying Circus", and "BadSun".

Overall in the series the order is: Terry Flynn, Max Scott, Brant Koepke, Keith Zars, and Scott Greenawalt. Circuit Stop #3 is DCYC for the Leukemia Cup May 7th and 8th! Charleston Race Week

Charleston Race Week, April 14-17th was bigger than ever this year! This regatta has come on strong and boasted almost 250 entries and 5 racing circles with 3 in the bay and 2 offshore. Saturdays racing was cancelled due to the horrible weather that worked through the area - this being the first time a CRW race day has been lost.

Our Traveling Texans were: Rick Smith J/80 "Air Supply"-Austin, Doug Schaffer J/120 "Gambler"-Houston, Claude Welles J/80 "Jack Rabbit"-Austin, and Bruno Pasquinelli J/80 "Tiamo"-Fort Worth.

The J/80 class was the second largest class with 26 boats! Bruno started off Friday with two bullets, but could only muster a 4 and a 6 on Sunday closing out with a 19, 3 points behind Kerry Klingler. Claude Welles and team "JackRabbit" continually moved up and ended the event with a 1st place in the last race. J/80 newcomer Rick Smith on "Air Supply" ended up mid-pack which is fantastic with this tough crowd!
Doug Shaffer and team "Gambler" ran the table with a 1,1,2,1,1 score card topping a PHRF fleet that consisted of a J/111 (2nd), J/122 (3rd) an Archimbault, 2 J/120's and Beneteau First 40.7.

Nautical Miles
Natical Miles

Do you have kids about to be home for the summer? Need some books for them to read? Donna McCartney is an author, writing a children’s book series called, "NAUTICAL MILE".  The first book in the Nautical Mile Series is set to be released the summer of 2011.  A campaign for a national coloring contest is already underway, set to roll out the beginning of next school year.  Donna commented to J sailors, "I was just reading an article written by Jeff Johnstone about the creation of the J/24 class.  I realized that my husband is probably right, our 1977 J/24, which is the backbone for the creation of my series and is the oldest J/24 boat we’ve ever encountered, comes from the very first production run of the J/24 series!!  I just thought I'd tell you that the boat is alive and well and still in use after all these years-- and still creating magic.  If you would like to see a few pictures, I have a couple out on our blog about my book and coloring contest HERE Please let others know about our coloring contest- Many Thanks, Donna McCartney- ph# (804)-462-5019 or email HERE
