Fall Sailing is Around the Corner with Many Exciting Events Coming Your Way!

In the Galveston Bay Venue we have the HYC One Design Regatta, J/Fest, GBCA Bank Regatta, and Harvest Moon Regatta. Fort Worth Boat Club is holding their annual Ol' Man of the Sea! And then the J/22 Worlds will be held in New Orleans!

For those of you in climates that start getting too cold to sail - Come on Down! We can arrange for you to leave your boat and help with your logistics to sail all of our fall and winter events! See event calendar below.

Lakewood Yacht Club is putting together a fantastic regatta for J sailors! - With 5 One Design Racing classes (J/22, J/24, J/80, J/105, and J/109 along with J/PHRF and J/Cruise classes this years J/Fest will have something for everyone on the water! But that's not all......

J/Fest Southwest Regatta - October 29-30th!

PRO, Dwight Bengston has arranged for 4 racing circles and will class up any J/Boat fleet that gets 5 boats to the line! Additional possibilities would be J/29, J/30, and J/35 owners!

Several of the fleets will be tracking their tactical decision making with the Kattack system which will be broadcast live in the LYC clubhouse! and replayed in the evening!

Also in the clubhouse will be the days action displayed on two screens - with great photo's taken by local sailing photographers John Lacy and Gary Trinklein!

J/World Annapolis will be on the water coaching any J/22 fleet members that would like to learn a little bit more then they already know.

After a day of hard sailing, join us at the yacht club for a Cajun Feast and Party

If the on-the-water activities aren't enough the J/24 fleet is sponsoring several lawn games! Try your luck at one of the several games and defend your fleets honor!

J/80 Worlds - July 3-8 - Copenhagen Denmark

The lone USA entry was Glenn Darden and team "LeTigre" (Reese Hillard, Carl Anderson, and Max Skelley) and they did us proud, leading the event after the first two days and finishing fifth overall. It's been called the "Most dangerous Regatta in America", the "Highest Regatta in America", and the "Largest Regatta in America west of the Mississippi". No matter what the claim-the Dillon Open Regatta is a lot of fun! Think you're good at reading the wind? Come to Dillon and test your skills! Mountains and valleys with rapidly changing weather will keep the tacticians on their toes, or rolling the dice. With 40 degree mornings, high 70's in the afternoon, Put this event on your 2012 calendar!

Dillon Open Regatta
July 29-31 - Dillon Colorado

Great fleet of 14 J/22's going at it, along with a fleet of J/24's and a couple of J/80's. J/Boats were well represented! The 14 boat J/22 fleet was the largest fleet at the regatta and were able to squeeze out 5 races after a light air start to the regatta on Saturday. Robin Jackson "K'Nae" won the event with Bill Darling "Camprobber" 2nd, and "Nauti Moose" driven by Michael Kline in third. Love the location specific names! Several of the J/22 owners expressed an interest in attending the Houston YC One Design Regatta, J/22 Worlds, and J/Fest! If they come down-show them some good old fashioned hospitality and consider going to Dillon next summer when it is too hot to race here!

In the 7 boat J/24 fleet it was anybody's regatta heading into the 5th and final race. Dallas transplant David Irwin drove the IBaJ too into 1st place totaling 9 points and tied with Fly Mo'J owned by Timothy Nelson. David won the tiebreaker for first and Fly Mo'J settled for second. Frank Keesling and the "Dumpster" team finished third and the always tough "Team Pinotage" (Susan and Greg Jonson) finished 4th.

The two J/80's rolled the dice in PHRF A and were up and down on the race course. Great fun in tricky conditions!

The J/111's had a great month in July!

Sweeping the Bayview-Mackinac podium spots and making a strong statement in the Chicago-Mackinac race with the J/111 Kashmir winning the double handed race! Read about it HERE

John Barnett of LYC called me after returning from the Mac and stated: "Scott I was on a Sydney 41 and every time we looked around there was a J/111 hanging right with us! - Impressive".

The amazing J/111 continues her march to victory with key wins in Europe and Australia. With ISAF ratification in progress this model has evolved into a world wide recognized One Design class in less then a year after hull #1 "Stella" was sailing in Newport. Fantastic start for a great design!

Work on the J/70 continues and our mailing list of interested parties grows!

-The HYC One Design Regatta is going to be held on September 17th and 18th-Not September 10th and 11th as published in the J/Fest Southwest calendar.

- In addition the Austin J/22 circuit stop has been moved to the HYC One Design Regatta event due to low water in Lake Travis. The HYC One Design event is a scored circuit stop event for the J/22's, J/24's and J/80's. It is a fleet event for the J/105's and J/109's. Wow! 42 boats and counting! This will be a true spectacle to see this many J/105's on the line fighting it out to crown the new champion! Cheer on our two Lone Star entries-Bill Lakenmacher-"Radiance" Lakewood YC, and Mark/Jolene Masur on "Twin Feathers" out of Dallas!
