DON'T MISS IT!

JFest Southwest 2011

Fall weather means great sailing here in Texas. The Second Annual J/Fest Southwest promises to be bigger and better then ever! Dwight Bengston is planning on having three race circles and has lined up three great race officers to make sure the racing is top notch. Several fleets have elected to have Kattack units on their boats for post race diagnosis and discussion. On land the shoreside committee is planning a fabulous dinner and the J/24 fleet is sponsoring some great fun and games! Don't miss J/Fest Southwest! This one is going to be worth traveling to!

If you plan on bringing your boat to J/Fest you might as well bring it down in September for the HYC One Design Regatta September 17-18th, GBCA Bank Regatta October 1-2, LYC Harvest Moon Regatta October 13-15th, and HYC Turkey Day Regatta November 19-20th!

Storage can be arranged between the regatta's. Come down for one and leave your rig up and ready to go for the rest of the events! If you plan ahead airfare to fly in and out from these regatta's can be very inexpensive and most of the hotels will honor the "JFest discount" for all of the events! Come on down and sail this fall!

This is a race form Galveston to Corpus Christi. Chris Lewis and his team on their J/44 "Kenai" won the spinnaker A class.

We need to find an offshore photographer so we can post pictures from these great events! In the meantime search J/44 Kenai on YouTube to find some great Kenai videos!

On the J/105 course Uzi Ozeri's "Team Infinity" has really come on strong with 3 firsts out of 5 races for an 8 point total followed by "Radiance" Bill Lakenmacher with 13 points and the "Stinger" gang in 3rd.

J109 J35

Al Goethe and the "Hamburg" team really knocked it out of the park with 4 straight 1st's over the always tough "Harm's Way" team. One way to stay out of "Harm's Way" is to be out front! Great job!

Beneteau First 36.7 J92

Congratulations to Nate Owens, Annapolis, Md. Nate has acquired the Beneteau First 36.7 that was traded in on a new J/111! This is Nate's first big boat as having recently sailed dinghies in College. He has crewed on a First 36.7 on the Chesapeake and decided to get his own. He will tearing up the Chesapeake soon!

Congratulations to Pete and Nancy Richmond. Pete and Nancy have sailed a lot of nice big cruisers and have now retired to Pine Island, Georgia. Nancy confessed to me that she knew another boat "was in the works" when Pete kept the safety gear after their last boat sold. They have went the "sporty" route with a J/92s and these mid-70 year olds will day sail and occasionally race. These two are role models on how staying active keeps you young: Sailing, tennis, and bike riding look like the perfect prescription!

Dillon Yacht Club

Who knew that a landlocked state like Colorado had fantastic sailing? Lake Dillon is the site of the 2012 J/24 Nationals and it's competitive one-design fleets include J/24, J/22, Etchells and Ensigns.  Beat the Texas heat in July, August and September and bring your boat, crew & family up to Colorado for the Dillon Open and the half-dozen remaining 2-day regattas this year.

TOP TEN REASONS TO HEAD TO COLORADO:
1. Dillon average high in August is 71 degrees
2. Bring your family -- they'll enjoy biking, hiking, outlet shopping, fly fishing, rafting, wildlife watching and other nearby recreational activities
3. Take advantage of condominium rental discounts through the Summit Resort Group by mentioning "Dillon Yacht Club" and enjoy one of over 100 1-, 2- or 3- bedroom units nearby (40 are lakefront)
4. Lake Dillon is a reservoir - it's Denver's drinking water so it is clean and free of grime or aquatic nuisances
5. Airfare deals starting at $138 roundtrip from Dallas or Houston
6. Lake Dillon is the site of 2012 J/24 Nationals - bone-up on racing here before your competition
7. Launch your boat by either trailer or free use of the hoist for the Dillon Open
8. Plenty of available slip or dry storage (DYC will pay weekend slip fees for the Dillon Open)
9. Volunteer hosts from Dillon Yacht Club will be available to help you with logistics and keep you apprised of not to miss events like rhumlines & parties
10. Dillon Yacht Club is the highest yacht club in the country at 9017 ft above sea level.

Editors Note: With the 2012 J/24 Nationals on the calendar for Dillon this summer would be an excellent opportunity to race a few events!
